Starting a lifestyle blog or website, (basically the same thing) provides you the opportunity to continually engage in a variety of topics, that really interest you.
Read the above sentence again..
Doesn’t that sound like fun?
With a lifestyle blog you cannot possibly run out of things to talk/write about.
You can document your entire life if you wish, in the form of a diary or journal.
And not just written down. You can use photographs, images, videos, audio, music and more!
But there are dozens of reasons why you should start a blog..
If you are passionate about something (it really doesn’t matter what), then a blog is a wonderful platform to express your views, share ideas, learn more about a topic and engage with like-minded people.
There is literally a blog, website or video about any subject you can think of.
If you need some ideas on what to blog about, just type “blog topic ideas” into your web browser and you’ll discover hundreds!
However, if you’re like me, you may not be passionate about any one thing.
Sure you may be interested in things like:
- keeping fit
- Staying healthy
- Eating good food
- Cooking
- Making money online
- Travelling
- Pets
- Religion
- Politics
- Sports
The list is endless..
But maybe not enough to spend an in-ordinarily length of time on any one of them.
It can be very frustrating not having a real passion about any one thing.
Worry ye not..
For the rest of us ‘Jack of All Trades, Master of None’ types, there are still plenty of reasons to start a blog.
Benefits of a Lifestyle Blog
Documenting Your Experiences Makes You More Creative
The more you write, the better your writing becomes.
And as your writing improves, so does your blog.
This in turn makes you look more authoritative and professional.
Your experiences Open Doors to Other Possibilities
As you continue to publish articles and videos, the more chances of engaging with other people.
I have made dozens of contacts and business opportunities just by writing about stuff going on in my life.
If you’re writing consistently, it is impossible not to.
I’ve written about products I use, and have been approached by the manufacturer to test out some of their other product lines.
You are literally networking all over the world!
It Can Improve Your Health
We all know we need to be more active and eat more healthily.
A blog can help you to achieve a lot of health and fitness goals.
You could keep a health or fitness journal, a cooking journal or a journal that involves certain medical issues you may have.
Market Your Business
If you have a business or are thinking of starting one, then writing about it on your lifestyle blog can act as another platform to help promote it.
As long as your content is engaging and useful, it will add value to your blog, and increase your exposure.
Record Your Life in the Form of a Diary or Journal
Diary Blog
When I was younger (much younger!) I started about 3 diaries over the years.
They only last a few months before I gave up.
But even now I enjoy reading them and recalling the events during that time of my life.
Most people enjoy looking back over their past adventures.
A blog for your online diary can be far more interesting to read than just words in a book.
You don’t need to worry about writing pages of meaningful content either.
You can simply jot down a few thoughts, share a photo or video clip from the day.
You can even record your day’s events through your laptop’s webcam.
Journal Blog
A journal is more of a period in time that you would like to document such as:
- Food journal
- Work journal
- Pregnancy journal
- Weight loss journal
- Fitness journal
- Running journal
- Bible/Prayer Journal
- Dream Journal
- Pregnancy Journal
- Reflective Journal
- Travel Journal
A blog enables you to keep a diary and/or a journal, whilst you get to decide who sees any of it.
You might want to share your diary and your innermost thoughts with the world.
Same goes with your journal.
Or you can keep it private by password protecting your content.
As with this blog, you might like to share with the world just some of your diary/journal entries – the stuff you think others might like to hear or know about.
Either way, creating a diary or journal on your own blog is a great idea.
Make Money
This may be the main reason for you to start a lifestyle blog.
Unfortunately, it is not a get rich quick scheme.
It may take you a year or two to start making any money.
But it can be done.
However, the most popular ‘blogging for money’ websites and forums will advise you to narrow your focus down to a very small niche.
You will find very few people advocating a broad ‘lifestyle’ business.
I hear it everywhere..
“you need to concentrate on a micro niche” “you’re website is too broad. It won’t appeal to anyone” “you can’t make money that way” etc.
This is nonsense.
A lifestyle blog has made a lot of people, a lot of money.
It can also make a lot of people enough to pay their mortgage and car payments. 🙂
Does that sound good?
Trust me, that sort of money is within reach of anyone who is able to read and write type.
As long as you provide valuable content and concentrate on a few broad topics that interest you, as well as what’s going on in your life, then there’s no reason why you can’t make a decent monthly income from a blog.
This blog, for example – petertremayne.com is a combination of a personal diary/journal and a lifestyle blog.
I get to document my life as well as write about other interesting stuff!
The writing, taking photos or making videos become enjoyable rather than a chore.
I look forward to updating my blog and sharing what interests me.
And it makes me money!
Make Money By Being You and Being Different
The beauty of a lifestyle blog is that everyone is different, with different views, interests, hobbies, beliefs, ideas, goals, dreams etc. etc.
So no two blogs will ever look the same.
Your personality makes you different.
Your lifestyle makes you different.
Your age, education, sex, locality, nationality etc. all make you different.
This is good for us because other people like to hear about other (different) people.
That’s just who we are as human beings.
We learn from others, be inspired, motivated, excited, more determined etc. from other people.
And this is great for a lifestyle blog!
As long as the content you put on your blog provides value to others, people will gravitate to you.
And when you have traffic..you can make money.
Bottom Line
People start a lifestyle blog for all sorts of reasons, and it provides a lot of benefits – including an income.
It is enjoyable and often therapeutic.
You get to speak and meet new people from all over the world.
There is a never ending supply of content to write about, take photos of, or video.
What are you waiting for?
