Day 46 – Kampot Oasis
Our usual start to moving on – jump on a tuk-tuk and head to the bus or train station.
Our last view of Phnom Penh and a final ride over the Tonle Sap river.
Our trusty Giant Ibis takes us 4 hours South to a little bit of heaven.
We are staying just outside Kampot, in a deluxe bungalow directly over the water – Kampot Riverfront Boutique.
We can swim here and take out a kayak.
We do just that. We go nowhere else today.
One blip in a perfect day, not a great sleep with French tourists playing bowls til 1am.
Also turns out the fishermen collect their catch at 4.45am!
Day 47 – “There’s a Rat in the Kitchen..”
Hire a moped from the accommodation and shoot into town.
No left indicator sends us back after a quick tour of town and an even quicker haircut for Pete.
Swim and hammock all afternoon.
I need a hammock.
With a new moped, we find a great Lebanese restaurant at night.
I am happily watching 4 girls start to food prep for the restaurant on the corner opposite, when I spot something!
Not sure if they didn’t see the massive rats at their feet AND IN the food containers.. or if the intent was to fatten them up ????
Another night tucked up by 10pm.
Day 48 – Extending Our Time Here
Up early to watch the sunrise followed by a river swim.
Watch the leaping fish, dragonflies and listening to the sounds of Buddhist music coming downstream.
We love this place so much we decide to extend for a couple more nights.
That’s the beauty of travelling with no strict itinerary.
Then Pete gets up.
We have to switch rooms as our lovely room is not available. ????
Our new one is still nice and close to the river.
We do the Bokor National Park by moped.
It’s bliss for the first half.
Super quiet roads and lot’s of wildlife.
Monkeys. Breeze. Jungle Sounds.
First stop was a large Buddhist monument.
And the old royal residence, now dilapidated. Its very cloudy and so cool ????
Then we hit the bit that’s been rented to developers.
Massive hotel and casino and building work.
Thousands of houses derelict and more being built.
Plus new roads. Reminder – National Park??
We leave the mountain and hit the Riverfront and the ‘lotus lake’ – we’ve missed it flowering ????

Quick swim for Pete as he was too lazy this morning!
Vegan for dinner, fresh veg and pumpkin ???? ???? curry.
Think I may turn Pete into a veggie yet!
Day 49 – Life by the River
Loving my swim. This morning the fisherman waved to me.
I did some basic yoga and there was a full Buddhist ceremony going across the river.
We spend the day at the bungalow, swimming and playing boules.
2 – 0. I hate boules.
In the evenining we take a tuk-tuk into town to another vegan place, Simple Things for dinner.
Immense!!

A better nights sleep in our new room, not being directly on the river helps!
Without doubt one of the nicest places we’ve stayed at on the trip.
Love the Riverside Boutique and Kampot town.
