Day 11 Godzilla!

Pete is woken by half a dozen cockerels from about 3am.

I hear them at about 6.30 (earplugs).

I go and watch them and their babies, crawling around a building site behind the hotel. Think he’d rather they were on a spit!

We do a beach walk and quick swim before they bring us breakfast to the room.

A tonne of fresh fruit for me and an American breakie for Pete – but it’s not as good as we remember it.

Never return to the same place!

We head to the beach and find a fabulous bar with big circular seats and books to read.

Good coffees and teas. We while away a few hours, scoffing pad thai and iced drinks.

Our next hotel is north of the island. But it turns out its quite remote.. only 5 mins to beach but 20 mins to town.

Pete doesn’t like it. It’s supposed to have a pool..it doesn’t. Bed is hard and AC unit loud.

We unpack (dump bag) and head to beach.

Immediately outside the hotel we jump a mile!!! A 5ft monitor lizard is snaffling through a bin. He hears us and waddles off into the field. Ffs.

2 beers later I feel much happier about hotel and godzilla. Pete needs to drink more.

We head from beach to night market, through the town. It’s quite a walk. Meet some cats.

The market seems cleaner than last year.

Pete queues for 20 mins for the largest chicken kebab ever made.  There is a queue for good reason, immense.

I find Pani Puri….Malaysia fine crispy balls stuffed with veg. Not as good as the ones in Penang – but not bad.

Finished the day with a coconut ice cream and roasted pecans – only me. Pete full of kebab.

Heading back at only 7.30pm but its a very dark road, not a nice walk..still thinking of pouncing lizards!

Day 12 Views.

Pete has a migraine, been awake all night.

I slept like a baby til 6.30. Our room has thin curtains so the sun streams in..we overlook coconut trees.

Sitting outside with a coffee is heaven. Overlooking a garden with coos, even a baby coo. Shame they are chained up.

We start with some stretching and a long walk.

We spot the Majestic bar and some super comfy seats which have our name on them.

We read and have a sea swim.

The sea is lovely and warm. But there are baby somethings.. likely jelly fish.. you can feel. No stings but puts me off a bit.

Pete reads about a great restaurant round the corner from the hotel. Saves us the dark walk back from town.

We spot a smaller monitor lizard on the way to Maladee restaurant. I love it here!

Pete has the fresh fish fillet, picked from a big display. I have pandang curry. Neither great. Both bland tourist fayre ????.

Music from a festival somewhere makes for nice evening on the balcony.

Day 13 Running is back.

Our first run. It’s a slightly shaded morning and we wake up before 7..early night last night and a good night’s sleep.

I have a lovely run, doesn’t feel like hard work! Pete trialling his new verbatum 5 fingers, like gloves for feet.  So he finds it hard on the feet.

We walk down the beach later for breakfast at The Oasis.  It’s a yoga place we went to last year.

The most amazing breakfast – I’ve never  seen so much broccalli on one plate.

I can’t eat it all! Neither can Pete.. he’s never defeated.

Then we find a spot at The Majestic bar again. I’m in time for happy hour.. gin cocktails all round. Spend a couple of hours reading.

After a beer and a coconut we walk back to get ready for a meal at Sisters restaurant. Another place from last year.

We manage to get the last table and I have my first Tom Sam – mushroom and tofu spicy tomato soup. Not bad… or that good.

I beat Pete at black jack.. twice.

We walk back along the beach.

We end up back at the hotel reading and listening to very loud music coming from what we think is likely a new year festival… it’s still on when I go to sleep at 11.30!

Day 14 Back on a moped!

So we hire a moped today and plan to drive down the island to see where we are going to stay next.

We hire from Miss Sunny and she is so lovely.

We get to Chom View first – my choice. It’s attached to a water park. We think there will be loads of kids.. but it was just sooo cheap!

It looks fun..and hardly any kids! Phew

We get back on the ped and head further south to Wei Xiao Resort.

It looks pretty rundown..Pete picked it.

We stop off at Richley Bar on Khlong Nin beach round the corner for a drink. The beach is nice. We’ll be 15 mins to it once we change hotels.

We decide we’ll stop at Relax Beach on the way back.

Its soooo nice we both suddenly feel its massage time, we pick a spot on the beach. Think it’s the first time we’ve had one actually on the beach.

Pete gets given a male masseuse but doesn’t change his mind like last time!

They are both brilliant and we come out and zonk out at a bar for an hour or so.

We eat at the Thai Kitchen around the corner again.

Think this beach might be our favourite. It’s near where will be staying at Chom View in a few days.

At night we venture to the festival we’ve been listening to every night. It’s full of old skool fair games and dodgy food stalls.

I even see baby chick’s in their eggs… on a stick ???? grim.

Finish off the night at the night market next door.

Day 15 Admin day

I drag Pete out for a run, loving it.

First outing for my striders top.

We then admit we’ve ran out of clean clothes and find a laundrette.

Pete disappears for a crossiant and a coffee. Just me doing the wash… poor old me.

Breakfast from a wee place across the road. Worst coffee for Pete.

We are then back to our usual lazy afternoon.

Think I’m obsessed by lizards.
