13 Feb Daffodil Hotel
We’d heard that Unawatuna was busy and filled with Russians..but we can’t go much further down south until we sort out the visas.
So we book 1 night in the middle of the mayhem to get our bearings.
Except the place has a main tourist street that is not on the busy main road. It’s lined with shops, bars and restaurants
It feels like Thailand. We like it.
The beach is lovely and the sea is good for swimming ! At last.

We get a couple of loungers and a coconut!

Swimming, I see no loo roll! Hurrah.
We have dinner on the beach and a few beers.
Our waiter tell us he earns 20k rs a month. That’s about £50.
He’s a national roller skating champion. He reminds us of Riley.
14 Feb Nooit, Power cut and Rain – St Valentines
We go for a walk and exercise on the beach. Beautiful morning.
Once back we realise there is no power – it’s off till 5pm in the area.
We get homemade passion fruit lemonade and tuna and cheese toasties off the limited menu – nothing that needs electric.
I watch a dozen 🐒 in the trees next door. The owner has left out a tray of bananas.
Good day so far.
We move hotels and just get settled when a storm starts. It doesn’t stop.
We are lucky in that the new hotel (£26 no breakie) has a generator. So there is a fan and fridge.
It is on the main road but set back.
The Nooit Heritage hotel is across the road. £50 a night. We looked round it but decided that as poor flash packers, we couldn’t justify it.
